Cygames Facilities Vol.2: The Cygames Saga Building and Studio

At Cygames, we have a number of facilities that allow games of the highest quality to be created within the company. We’ll be introducing some of these on-site resources in our “Cygames Facilities” series.
In this second volume, we’ll be offering a glimpse into the Cygames Saga Building in Saga, Kyushu, as well as the newly established Cygames Saga Studio!

Recruiting young and talented personnel—Cygames’s history in Saga.

Cygames has had a close connection to Saga since our first base of operations was established there in 2017.
As a result of Saga’s “Advanced ICT Utilization Education Promotion Project,” which was created to help the city adapt to an increasingly information-oriented society, there were a large number of vocational schools and other educational institutions in the computer and electronics fields located in the prefecture. Seeking to take in these young and talented graduates, Cygames formed a tri-party agreement with Saga Prefecture and Saga City in April 2017, going on to establish the Cygames Saga Debug Center in August of that year.

The expansion agreement signing ceremony, attended by the Saga Prefecture governor, Cygames board member Chikaishi, and the Saga City mayor.

Later, as the Saga Debug Center continued to expand its staff, it needed an office environment that could handle more workers. Thus, in July 2018, Cygames announced the establishment of the Cygames Saga Building, which would be the first property owned by the company.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in February 2019. Construction of the building began soon afterward!

Connecting “people,” “community,” and “the future”—the Cygames Saga Building concept.

The Cygames Saga Building was intended to “connect” people to people, the community to the company, and to form a “connection” to the future. The exterior of the building was based on the letter “C,” the first letter in Cygames.
The building’s design was intended to be simple yet powerful, with a color scheme composed of black and white—the corporate colors of Cygames—and added wood tones to harmonize with the natural features of Saga.
For the wood tones, the grain was printed onto aluminum panels using state-of-the-art technology in order to create original shades that tie in with the surrounding natural textures and scenery. In these ways, the building was constructed to be a handsome addition to the city of Saga.

Next, we’ll be taking a look at some of the key features of the office interior!

A stately and innovative entrance and reception hall design.

Upon entering the building, you arrive in a spacious entrance hall. The staircase, decorative wall, and ceiling louvers—made using wood from Saga Prefecture—were constructed to represent the company and leave a lasting impression on visitors.

The reception hall on the second floor features a one-of-a-kind counter that blends seamlessly with the room’s design! Using cypress wood from Saga Prefecture, the interwoven straight lines and soft, round shapes form the motif of a magpie—Saga’s prefectural bird—to warmly welcome visitors to the building.

A decorative Bahamut dish.

An Imari ware dish was created to commemorate the building’s completion. Bahamut, who also appears in the corporate logo of Cygames as a chess piece, was expertly reproduced in Ai Nabeshima’s quiet yet dignified style. Combining tradition and innovation with Bahamut on the front and a karahana pattern on the back, the platter is displayed in the first floor elevator hall to greet guests as they get on and off the elevator.

Office areas that provide a sense of openness and convenience.

Although ceilings in most office buildings are set at 2.6 to 2.7 meters high, the Cygames Saga Building features 3-meter high ceilings to emphasize the openness of the office areas.
In addition, steel beams span the floors to create 18-meter spaces with no pillars in sight! While many offices tend to be cold and lifeless, the wood grain finish on these beams generates a soft, inviting atmosphere.

Each of the office area conference rooms feature a large glass window with no column in the corner, giving them a sense of freedom while still ensuring the building’s stability.

An office building with spaces for relaxation.

In any office, it’s important to have places for employees to rest and relax during the workday. The Cygames Saga Building has an outdoor terrace on the third floor and relaxation rooms on each floor for this very purpose.
All relaxation rooms are equipped with locally produced furnishings from Morodomi Furniture to create a calming environment. The outdoor terrace on the third floor faces south at a height that allows you to see trains running on the nearby Nagasaki Main Line, making it a perfect place to unwind. Furthermore, the fifth floor lounge provides a relaxing space using ample amounts of wood from Saga Prefecture!

We hope you enjoyed our tour of the office’s interior.

“The best in creativity from Kyushu”—our first creative organization, the Cygames Saga Studio.

As of April 1st, the Cygames Saga Building is now home to two organizations—the Cygames Debug Center and the Cygames Saga Studio. Next, we’ll be giving you a brief introduction to the newly established Cygames Saga Studio.

The Cygames Saga Studio is the company’s first independent organization dedicated to creativity. Its acting representative, Mutsukura, has been involved in the creation and supervision of 2D illustrations since Cygames’s inception, and has served as manager of the illustration team since 2016.
Along with producing artwork, UI elements, animation, and 3DCG for Cygames, the Cygames Saga Studio will also provide various projects, lectures, and more for the next generation of game designers in the Kyushu region.
As such, the studio is planning to hold a creativity contest for students graduating from a university or vocational school in or after 2021, as well as for students currently enrolled in such schools. Feel free to apply if you qualify!

That’s it for our insight into Cygames’s new complex and initiatives in Saga.
Even outside of our Tokyo headquarters—be it Saga, Osaka, or overseas—Cygames will continue to create the best in entertainment!
